I have always had mixed feelings on the home school issue. While I understand that some children learn in different ways, I had always felt that they need the social interaction and structure that school provides.
I knew one classmate who was pulled from school and homeschooled. Never have gotten around to asking him how he felt about that…hey, be right back – gonna email him while I am thinking about it…
Ok, back to my babble…
We had friends in Washington whose son was a “slow grower” – he was much smaller than the other kids in his grade and was being bullied. His parents pulled him from public school to homeschool him… he finished 9 months of school in 6 months. Tested leaps and bounds ahead of the kids his age/grade as well! (By the way – he is now probably 6 inches taller than me…)
As we moved here to Florida, there were a few hurdles to jump with getting the children into school here, as well as the fact that Goose was bullied the first year we were here and I seriously considered home schooling.
Now, I see the difference in the education my 14 year old is getting in private school vs. the public school, and I have been amazed.
After watching this video – homeschool sounds even better. Not for us, Goose is ADHD and still needs the structure, and the social interactions. However, there are many things that this kid has done during his homeschooling that I think are great ideas to do with any child – homeschooled, public or private schooled.
