I watch this every year. My own little tradition, I suppose. With or without the kids – as it was this year, they had better things to do (video games, Internet..). It is the same cartoon every year of course, but this year for some reason, I really wished that the kids had watched with me. There are important lessons to be learned there, and sometimes, unfortunately, kids learn best from a cartoon.
My sister in law quotes a line in her blog(http://kitechronicles.blogspot.com) about Christmas from Lucy “… this racket set-up to get us all to buy things we don’t need that we know as Christmas.” Our kids really don’t need more toys. More video games. More electronic gadgets.
What is Christmas really about anyway? Does anyone even remember? Little Reese (age 9 for those who don’t know) gave me a shock a few days ago.
After one too many commercials about just the right Christmas gift to get that special someone…the best toys to get the kids… he came around the corner and yelled ( at no one in particular, but then the world at the same time, I suppose)
“CHRISTMAS IS NOT ABOUT PRESENTS!! IT IS ABOUT SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY AND THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE. IT IS ABOUT DOING GOOD THINGS FOR OTHERS AND IT IS ABOUT THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST!!!”
I think that about sums it up. Thank you, Little Reese and Linus.
Merry Christmas!
